DistributionChina (Guangxi, Guangdong, Hainan, Guizhou, Hunan), Taiwan, Vietnam (Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Ninh binh, Quang Binh, Son La, Ha Giang), elevations up to 1000 m.

vietnamensis: N Vietnam; Type locality: Ky Anh - Ke Go, Ha Tinh Province.

Type locality: Kanshirei (= Kuantzuling), Formosa (= Taiwan).

Holotype: ZFMK 70342, paratypes in ZFMK [vietnamensis] 
DiagnosisDiagnosis. Dorsals large, in regular series; four pairs of postmental shields; four or five inguinal pores on each side; head elongate; olive or olive brown above, with dark olive brown lateral streak, lower surfaces white. (Van Denburgh 1909: 50) 
CommentSimilar species: Has been misidentified previously as T. wolteri or T. sexlineatus.

Behavior: diurnal. 
EtymologyNamed after Victor Kühne, which was actually an alias for Dr. John Cheesman "Snake" Thompson (1874-1943), an American naval surgeon and spy working for the U.S. Navy. He was a co-founder ofthe Zoological Society of San Diego and worked for Van Denburgh at the California Academy of Sciences when Van Denburgh was curator of Herpetology there.
