Type species: Tantilla coronata BAIRD & GIRARD 1853: 131 is the type species of the genus Tantilla BAIRD & GIRARD 1853.

Key to species: Wilson 1982 
EtymologyThe genus name is from the Latin word tantillum, meaning "trifle or something small and insignificant." The gender is feminine.
