Elevation: 0-1677 m (WILSON & MATA-SILVA 2014)

Type locality: Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico (locality questioned by Peters, 1954 Zweifel 1959, and Wilson 1999; the latter suggested the state of Colima as the most likely source of the holotype).

CommentGroup: The Tantilla calamarina group consists of T. calamarina, T. cascadae, T. coronadoi, T. deppei, T. sertula, T. vermiformis, T. carolina, and T. ceboruca.

EtymologyThe name calamarina is derived from the Latin word “calamarius, meaning ‘a writing reed’ and the suffix –ina, used in forming feminine names, in reference to the slender habitus of this species” (Wilson, 1988a).
