Diagnosis | Diagnosis: Tarentola mindiae displays all features characteristic of the subgenus Tarentola outlined above, but differs from all other inembers of the subgenus by the following characters: Scales and tubercles on temporal region large, not separated by small scales as in the other taxa of the subgenus (see Figure 2); postmentals 3-5 times larger than gulars, in the other taxa postmentals are half the size of the gulars or smaller (see Figure 2); tubercles on tail are round and obtuse, in the other taxa these are elongate and spine-like; upper forelimb scales are medium sized and homogenous, these are heterogeneous and separated by smaller scales in the other taxa (except 1. m. mauritanica and T. m. juliae). In addition, it differs from T. deserti and T. boehmei by possessing lower subdigital lamellae, lower mid body and gular scale counts, higher number of dorsal tubercles and darker colour (sce Table 1). It also differs from the last species (which is restricted (o south western Morocco) by the exclusion of the rostral from the nostril. Froin 1. mauritanica fascicularis, it differs by the lower mid body scale counts and relatively higher number of gulars and dorsal tubercles, exclusion of rostral froin the nostril, and darker colour (sec Table 1). From T. angustimentalis (restricted to the Canary Islands), it differs by relatively higher mid body scale counts and lower interorbital scale number, exclusion of rostral from the nostril, and darker colour (sec Table 1).
