Etymology | Named after Theodore Joseph Bürgers (1881-1954), a physician and zoologist who participated in the German Sepik expedition in New Guinea for the museum of Humboldt-Universität, Berlin. He became Professor of Hygiene and Bacteriology in Düsseldorf (1923) and later at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. |
