Distribution	Mexico (NE Durango, SW Coahuila) Type locality: Río Nazas, 1.2 km east of Presa Lázaro Cardenas, Durango, Mexico.
Reproduction	oviparous.
Types	Holotype: UU 3802, immature; paratypes: MCZ, USNM, KU, UU, MSU
Diagnosis	Diagnosis: A subspecies of Pseudemys scripta closely related to P. s. gaigeae and distinguished by the following combination of characters: anal lamina usually longer than abdominal; plastral pattern brown, relatively narrow, concentrated posterior to pectoro-abdominal seam; carapace pattern chiefly indistinct except for bold, circumferential series of dark-centered ocelli, one on each marginal scute; and isolated stripe on mandibular ramus half or less than half as long as isolated postorbital mark. Pseudemys s. hartwegi has the shortest mandibular stripe of any subspecies of P. scripta other than callirostris. (Legler 1990)

Etymology	Named after Dr. Norman Edouard "Kibe" Hartweg (1904-1964), American herpetologist graduated from the University of Michigan (1934) and later became a Curator there (1947).
