Type locality: Río Nazas, 1.2 km east of Presa Lázaro Cardenas, Durango, Mexico.  
TypesHolotype: UU 3802, immature; paratypes: MCZ, USNM, KU, UU, MSU 
CommentHabitat: freshwater (lakes, ponds, rivers) 
EtymologyNamed after Dr. Norman Edouard "Kibe" Hartweg (1904-1964), American herpetologist graduated from the University of Michigan (1934) and later became a Curator there (1947).
