CommentDistribution: see map in Vences et al. 2014: 482 (Fig. 3)

Type species: Mabuia gravenhorstii Duméril & Bibron 1839 is the type species of the genus Monophyaspis COPE 1892, a synonym of Trachylepis, fide Shea 2021. 
EtymologyNamed after Johann Ludwig Christian (or Jean Louis Charles) Gravenhorst (1777-1857), German naturalist at the University of Breslau (Wroclaw, Poland).
