Type locality: Lokobe Reserve, Ampasindava, 13°25' S, 48°19' E, 150 m elevation, Nosy Be Fivondronana, Antsiranana Province, Madagascar.

EtymologyThe specific name "lavarambo" (pronounced "lava ramboo") is Malagasy for long (lava) tail (rambo) and is used as a noun in apposition referring to "the long-tailed one."
