striata (s. str.): SE Sudan (Jumhūriyyat), Republic of South Sudan (RSS), Ethiopia, Somalia, south to KwaZulu-Natal, W to E Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi and adjacent SE Zambia, SE Zimbabwe, N and Mpumalanga Provinces of South Africa and E Swaziland, Kenya.

Type locality: “Mozambique” [Island].

TypesSyntypes: ZMB 1241 (2 specimens), 1242 (2 specimens, originally three, fate of third specimen unknown), 1243, Mozambique, collected W. Peters. 
Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy partly after BROADLEY 2000. Mabuya striata punctatissima and Mabuya striata sparsa MERTENS 1954 have been elevated to full species status. Following Broadley (2000) T. striata and T. (striata) wahlbergii should belong to two different species, which we follow here. However, in a recent paper by Castiglia et al. (2006) molecular and karyological evidences suggest the conspecifity of the two taxa.

Distribution: for a map see Stephens et al. 2022: Fig. 4. Not in Angola fide Ceriaco et al. 2024 (revision Angolan Trachylepis).

Diet: a large percentage of the diet of this species (10-30%) consists of ants (Lucas et al. 2023).
