Type locality: Bougainville Island.

Diagnosis 
CommentBehavior: one of only a few scincid lizards that can vocalize.

Distribution: There is some doubt as to whether this species actually occurs on Bougainville. Greer and Parker (1968a) point out that the species is absent in the extensive collections made on the island by Parker in the 1960s [from McCoy 2006].

Abundance: Rare. This is one of the species called 'lost' and 'rediscovered' by Lindken et al. 2024. 
EtymologyNamed after Rev. Jean-Baptiste Poncelet (1884-1958), who headed the Catholic Mission at Buin, Bougainville, Solomon Islands, in the 1930s. He also collected natural history specimens for V. Danis, who worked at Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris.
