DistributionPapua New Guinea, Admirality Islands (Manus; may be in error fide MYS 1988: 148)

Type locality: “Beim Fluss Moso” [= near the river Moso]
TypesHolotype: RMNH ? (Leiden); not in ZMA, at least not listed in the type catalog by DAAN & HILLENIUS 1966 who suspect that it may have been transferred to the Leiden Museum. RMNH.RENA.4626 appears to be the only specimen in Leiden, collected from the Moso River, hence it may be the holotype.
CommentSynonymy: Zweifel 1966 and Cogger 1972 expressed the opinion that Tribolonotus gracilis might be synonymous with Tribolonotus novaeguineae (for a discussion see MYS 1988: 148).

Behavior: one of only a few scincid lizards that can vocalize.
EtymologyNamed after Latin “gracilis”, meaning small or lanky, or gracile.
