Type locality: Vicinity of University of Ibadan Zoological Garden, city of Ibadan, Ob adan Province, Oyo state, Western Region, SW Nigeria, 7° 23’ N, 3° 54’ E, elevation ca. 150 m.  
TypesHolotype: CM 92653 (unknown sex) 
DiagnosisL. greenwelli is related to L. bicolor but differs from the latter by possessing a single anterior supralabial, a longer tail with fewer subcaudals, and the absence of brown pigment and an apical spine on the tail tip. 
EtymologyNamed after J. Richard Greewell, the founder, editor, and secretary of the International Society of Cryptozoology.
