CommentType species: Ablabes gracilis GÜNTHER 1872: 18 is the type species of the genus Trimetopon COPE 1885.

Synonymy: Dunn 1930 included pliolepis as a synonym in gracile.

Key: Dunn 1930 presented a key to the 3 species of Trimetopon he recognized (gracile including pliolepis, simile, and barbouri) 
EtymologyNamed after Latin gracile, slender, thin, slim. [“...Body and tail slender, subcylindrical; head narrow, not distinct from neck...”].

The genus was named after Greek tria (τρία), three + Greek metopon (μέτωπον), the space between the eyes, the brow, forehead. ["...Two internasals; one prefrontal plate…"].
