Type locality: Mazatlan, Sin., Mexico.

TypesHolotype: INHS (= UIMNH) 25072 (was EHT. No. 709, collected July 24, 1934; E. H. Taylor, collector) 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: A species related to T. bi-sciitatus Dumeril and Bibron, but not having the preoculars touching frontal, and with the dorsal spots greatly elongated and fewer in number. Frontal as long as parietal; prefrontals as wide as long. Ventrals, 253; anal divided; subcaudals, 76 (from TAYLOR 1936).

CommentSynonymy: Has been considered as a synonym of T. biscutatus biscutatus, e.g. by Scott 1984.

Habitat: partly arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018). 
EtymologyNot given by Taylor but apparently named after the smaller number of dorsal spots, from Latin “pauci” = few, and macula = spot.
