Comment | Illustrations: Schwartz and Marsh, 1960; Greene and Burghardt, 1978; Mehrtens, 1987. Synonymy: partly after WALLACH et al. 2014. Distribution: the type locality reported by GARMAN 1887 is “Cuba" which is probably in error. However, SCHWARTZ & HENDERSON 1988 mention one other specimen purportedly from Cuba (AMNH 2946). |
Etymology | The specific epithet curtus (Latin) means short or incomplete, possibly referring to the short overall body length compared to other species (although it’s by no means the shortest species in the genus). |
