CommentName: Latin for confusing, in allusion to the squamation of head that is similar to that of Tropidophorus brookei (Gray, 1845). 
EtymologyPresumably from the Latin perplexus (intricate, complex). Barbour (1908) refers to the compexity in determining species boundaries from the past literature, with inconsistencies in details between sources.
