DistributionAustralia (Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia)

Type locality: Sherlock River, Nickol (as Nicol) Bay, W. A.
TypesLectotype: BMNH 1946.8.30.46 (formerly, Sherlock River, Nicol Bay, WA, collected E. Clement. Designated by Wells & Wellington (1985).
EtymologyNamed after Latin “brevis, -e” = short and “cauda, -ae” = tail. “brevicauda” (short tail) is a noun in apposition, not an adjective, hence its gender is NOT that that of the masculine genus. An adjective would require the name to be “brevicaudatus” (W. Böhme and A. Koch, pers. comm. 13 Aug 2018).
