Type locality: 10 km WNW of Timber Creek, Northern Territory, in 15° 37’ S, 130° 23’ E.

Diagnosis 
CommentSize: This is one of the smallest monitors with a total length of up to 40 cm. 
EtymologyNamed after Dr. Richard Dennis King (1942-2002), a Canadian-born Australian ecologist, and Dr. Max King (b. 1946), who collected the holotype.
