DiagnosisDiagnosis: Vermicella vermiformis can be differentiated from V . intermedia and V . multifasciata by the condition of the internasal scales (present in V . vermiformis) and the lower number of body and tail bands. V . vermiformis can be differentiated from V . annulata by its higher number of ventral scales and thinner body, and from V . snelli by its wider body and (usually) lower number of ventral scales. See Figs 4-6 for interspecific comparisons in these characters (Keogh & Smith 1996).
CommentVenomous!
EtymologyThe specific name, like the generic name, is a derivative of the Latin 'vermis' for worm and is in reference to the long thin body and fossorial nature of the species.
