The most derived species of Zygaspis, with fusion of preoculars with prefrontals, parietals with frontals, a single postocular and a single large temporal with which the postsupralabials are fused. This species has lower counts of body annuli and higher counts of caudal annuli (and hence a proportionately longer tail) than any other species in the genus, it is also distinguished from parapatric populations of Z. vandami arenicola by its more numerous segments in a midbody annulus. (BROADLEY & BROADLEY 1997)
CommentZygaspis vandami has been considered as a synonym of Z. violacea.
