Type locality: Mexico: Volcan San Martin, crater rim, Veracruz.

TypesHolotype: INHS (= UIMNH) 67062, adult male; J. Werler and J. Reid; February 15, 1953. Given as “Frederick A. Shannon [FAS] Collection No. 10529” by Werler & Shannan 1961. Paratype: FAS No. 10563, a juvenile female. 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: An Abronia of the deppei species group (paired postmental; no protuberant supra-auricular scales) with dorsal osteoderms developed only on about twelve anterior scale rows; posterior subocular in contact with lower anterior temporal; antepenultimate supralabial below orbit; three anterior temporals entering orbit (one narrowly); number of secondary temporals normally four; dorsals in 36-37 transverse rows; dorsal color of adult olive green, without transverse markings; temporals with posterior margins of conspicuous lemon yellow; supranasals greatly expanded, meeting at midline; parietals in broad contact with medial supraoculars; no anterior canthal; a minimum of six scales in any one row across nape.
