Type locality: Eastern Turkmenia: Kunya-Urgench.  
Reproductionoviparous (not imputed, fide Zimin et al. 2022) 
TypesHolotype: NMNHU (formerly ZIK) 13, adult male; paratypes: NMW 
DiagnosisDIAGNOSIS. Nostril between rostral, first supralabial, large supranasal scales, and two additional small nasal scales; two postsupranasal scales, variously defined, separated from each other by one (89%) or two (11%) scales; three to six small loreal scales distinctly smaller than supranasals. (Szczerbak & Golubev 1996) 
Comment 
EtymologyNamed after Nikolai Nikolaevich Szczerbak (1927-1998), Ukrainian herpetologist who was arrested by the NKVD (Secret Police) and imprisoned in the Gulag (1948-1954). See Adler 1999 for more details.
