Distribution: The original type locality was “Chile” but the species does not occur in Chile. This species has been reported from Peru, but without specific locality (T. Doan, pers. comm. 30 Apr 2012). Not in Paraguay (Cacciali et al. 2016). Apparently no confirmed records from Brazil (COSTA & BERNILS 2015.) 
EtymologyNamed after Alcide Dessalines d'Orbigny (1802-1857), French traveler and naturalist who lived in South America for 8 years (1826-1834).
