Type locality: Santo Domingo, Cordillera de Carabaya, Dep. de Puno, Peru, 6000 ft elevation.

EtymologyNamed after the Latin vertebra (backbone) plus the suffix -alis (belonging to), in reference to the vertebral stripe.
