Type locality: Langkat, Sumatra.

TypesHolotype: MZUS Oph276, male (Mus Zool Univ. Strasbourg) 
DiagnosisDiagnosis (n=1): Maxillary teeth modified; third and fourth supralabials entering orbit; preocular present; mental not touching anterior chin shields; paraparietals surrounded by 6 shields and scales; belly with dark crossbands, each more than 1 ventral wide. (Inger & Marx 1965)

EtymologyNamed after Dr. Ludwig Heinrich Philipp Doderlein (1855-1936), German zoologist and paleontologist. He became Curator and Director, Zoological Collections, Strasbourg (1882), and and later Professor of Zoology (1891) and head of the Zoological Collections, Staatliches Museum für Naturkunde, München.
