Diagnosis	Diagnosis: Caledoniscincus orestes can be distinguished from all other species in the genus by the following combination of features in colour and size: tail with distinctive dark chevrons; dorsum with pale vertebral stripe; snout with dark midrostral streak. Etymology	Named after Latin "orestes," meaning a mountain-dweller (Shea 2012), not after Orestes, the son of King Agamemnon and his wife, Clytemnestra, as suggested by Beolens et al. 2011.
