Type locality: Mt. Sir Thomas, Birksgate Range, S. A., desigated by HOUSTON 1976.

TypesLectotype: SAMA R1423, male, collected Elder Expedition. Designated by Zietz (1915); see Houston (1974). 
Diagnosis 
CommentLifestyle: saxicolous.

EtymologyPresumably named after the Latin rufus (red) plus the suffix -escens (becoming), i.e., reddish. (G. Shea, pers. comm., 9 Feb 2024)
