Additionally, we refer the material from three other localities to this taxon based on morphological and molecular data. However, considering the taxonomic diversity and complexity of this group we do not include these specimens in the type series.
DiagnosisDiagnosis (n=8). SVL of the two known adult males is 37.7 and 39 mm, TailL 48.5 and 54 mm, respectively; snout is blunt-pointed; rostral part relatively short (HeadLGSnEye 3.0); relatively large eyes (HeadLGOrbD 4.0); smooth rounded dorsal tubercles forming 10 rows across the middorsum and 24 – 26 in paravertebral row (from occiput to the middle of sacrum); enlarged tubercles present on the dorsal surface of the hindlimbs and practically indistinguishable on the forelimbs; tail weakly segmented, formed by semi-rings of enlarged weakly-keeled tubercles, subcaudals in single median row of transverse plates, bifurcated at the tip of a non-regenerated tail; 26 – 30 ventral scales across the middle of the belly, 103 – 110 midventral scales from mental to cloaca. Scales on the precloacal region slightly enlarged; males have two precloacal pores, located on enlarged scales; no enlarged femoral scales or femoral pores; 9 – 10 infralabials, 11 – 12 supralabials; triangular mental plate, three pairs of postmentals, first pair usually in a contact. Limbs and tail thin and gracile (SVLGforelimbs 1.85 and SVLGhighlimbs 1.38). Dorsal pattern formed by seven transverse brownish bands, and 8 – 9 bands on the tail. (Nazarov et al. 2026)

Unfortunately we had to temporarily remove additional information as this was scraped by multiple AI companies who sell that data. However, these details, e.g. detailed descriptions (about less than half a page) are available for collaborators and contributors. Please contact us if you need any of this material.
CommentStatus: this species should be considered as preliminary, given that the authors only used a COI fragment for sequencing and did not compare it to all Iranian species (which are also not all shown on the map).
EtymologyNamed after the Farsi word kuhestan” and translates as “highlands” or “mountains.”
