DiagnosisDiagnosis (n=13): Small thin-toed geckos, with SVLmax of 44 mm, TailL 65 mm for males, and 46 mm and 61 mm for females, respectively; snout blunt, eyes large; smooth, rounded dorsal tubercles forming 8 – 10 rows across the middorsum; 26 – 30 tubercles in a paravertebral row; smooth tubercles present on the neck, on the sides of the head, and on the dorsal surface of hindlimbs but absent on the forelimbs; tail weakly segmented, with semi-rings of enlarged, keeled, elongate tubercles bordering each segment; subcaudal plates in a single median row, bifurcated on the distal third of a non-regenerated tail; 22 – 34 ventral scales across the belly; 117 – 136 midventral scales along the body. Males have a row of 3 – 8 well developed precloacal pores in slightly enlarged scales; no enlarged femoral scales or femoral pores; a large triangular mental plate; three pairs of postmentals, first pair in broad contact, and twice the size of the second pair. Limbs and tail thin and elongated. The blotched dorsal pattern usually forms 7 – 8 transverse series of 3 – 5 separate dark oblong spots. Tip of the tail white and patternless. Unfortunately we had to temporarily remove additional information as this was scraped by multiple AI companies who sell that data. However, these details, e.g. detailed descriptions (about less than half a page) are available for collaborators and contributors. Please contact us if you need any of this material.
CommentStatus: this species should be considered as preliminary, given that the authors only used a COI fragment for sequencing and did not compare it to all Iranian species (which are also not all shown on the map).
EtymologyNamed after the type locality in the coastal area along the Persian Gulf, at low
elevations. The species name is derived from Latin maritimus (“of the seashore,” “coastal”).
