DiagnosisDiagnosis: Dopasia bashu sp. nov. can be diagnosed from all other species of Dopasia by a combination of the following morphological characteristics: (1) body size large, adult SVL 178.1–240.5mm, BWMB 11.7– 16.7mm; (2) tail relatively long, TAL 172.6–192.9% SVL; (3) nasal separated from frontonasal by two scale rows; (4) prefrontals not in contact, except in very rare cases; (5) ear openings distinct; (6) dorsal scales along lateral fold 99–110; (7) PPV 57–60; (8) body clay colour in adults, with short cyan transverse streaks and spots; and (9) lateral and ventral head, body, and tail all black in juveniles, feebly wavy superiorly on anterior lateral body. EtymologyNamed after the Chinese word “巴蜀” which refers to an ancient geographic region (a noun) that encompasses modern Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipal
District, which also represents the main distribution range of the new species.
