CommentType species: Scelotes fierinensis GRANDIDIER 1869: 340 is the type species of the genus Grandidierina MOCQUARD 1894, as designated by Brygoo 1981.

EtymologyProbably named after the historical collecting locality near Toliara in the South West of Madagascar, likely related to the Fiherenana River.

The genus is named after Alfred Grandidier (1836-1921), French explorer, geographer, and ornithologist who collected in Madagascar (1865).
