| Comment | Subspecies: Nucras taeniolata has been split into 3 species by Jacobsen (1989): Nucras taeniolata, N. holubi STEINDACHNER (1882) and N. ornata GRAY, J. E. (1864). Distribution: Broadley 1972 thought that it is necessary to restrict the type locality because of the presence of taeniolata-like specimens in western Cape Province populations of tessellata tessellata (called "T" in his study). It should be noted that Pseudocordylus fasciatus was described by Smith in the same paper as his Nucras species and the former was subsequently stated to originate from "rocky hills near Grahamstown". Most of the references to "var. taeniolata" (before Broadley 1972) were concerned with material from the eastern Cape Province. |
| Etymology | Named after Latin taeniolata, having small ribbons or tapes. ["…Back brown, with two fine black lines, in places composed of dots…"]. |
