| Comment | Synonymy: WAGNER (30 July 2002, pers. comm.) synonymized Oligodon propinquus with Oligodon waandersi based on an examination of the types. The locality of propinquus ["Java"] is most certainly incorrect. |
| Etymology | Named after Latin prop(e) = "near" + (h)inc "hence" + -uus, meaning closeness. The term refers to the lack of teeth at the anterior end of the upper jaw, as well as the same shape and proportion of the teeth and jaw bones to another Oligodon species, O. subquadratus (now a synonym of Oligodon bitorquatus BOIE, 1827). |
