CommentSynonymy: Ophiodes fragilis has been revalidated by Marcos di Bernardo (pers. comm. to A. Kwet). This species has been previously synonymized with O. striatus.

Distribution: Argentinean populations of this species were named as Ophiodes yacupoi Gallardo, 1966 for a long time, but new evidence (Martins 1998) suggests that this species must be named as O. fragilis. O. yacupoi is not in Paraguay (fide Cacciali & Scott 2012 and Cacciali et al. 2016), nor in Argentina; Argentinean populations of this species actually belong to O. fragilis (Avila et al. 2013).

Limb morphology: : hindlimbs only (reduced).
EtymologyNamed after Latin fragilis, brittle, frail; impermanent. (RADDI 1820, Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., April 2024)
