Type locality: Uegusuku, Nakazato-son (now Kumejimacho), Kumejima island, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan  
Reproduction 
TypesHolotype: KUZ R36423, a subadult female, collected by M. Toyama on 24 July 1990. Paratypes (n = 12): all from Kumejima island. KUZ R36270, R36271, two yearling males from Mt. Uegusukudake, collected by H. Ota on 6-7 July 1996; KUZ R53230, R53232-R53234, R53238, R53239, CAS 267588 (former KUZ R53236) an adult male, and five adult and a subadult females from an unknown locality by H. Ota on 23 August 1989; KUZ R66333, a hatchling female from Mt. Darumayama, collected by K. Kurita on 20 September 2009; OPM-H-452, 453, a hatchling male and an adult female from Shirasegawa River, by an unknown collector on 18 September 1982. 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: Plestiodon kumesilvae sp. nov. is assigned to the P. latiscutatus species group, but can be distinguished from the relatives by the following combination of morphological characters: (1) MSR 20-22 (mean = 21.7, mode = 22; n = 13); (2) PoSO 3-4 (mean = 3.2, mode = 3; n= 13); (3) Nu 1 (mean = 1.0, mode = 1; n = 13); (4) PPN usually absent (absent in 12 and present in one cases; n= 13); (5) longitudinal light line five; (6) DLL passing on both second and third dorsal scale rows at midbody (n = 13); (7) and LL usually passing on fifth dorsal scale row at midbody (fifth row in 11, fifth and sixth rows in two cases; n= 13); (8) EISPF absent; (9) body coloration of juvenile very vivid.
