Type locality: Rancho Grande, Parque Nacional Henri Pittier, 12 km NW NW of Maracay, Aragua, Venezuela.

DiagnosisDiagnosis (n=4). “A moderately large species of Pseudogonatodes, with granular dorsals; 31-35 ventrals in a longitudinal row between anterior level of fore limbs and that of hind limbs; rostral with a posterior medial cleft, bordered by three postrostrals; 7-8 loreals in a straight line between postnasals and orbit; 6-9 postmentals, three of which form a straight or convex suture with the mental; lamellae under fourth finger 8-9, under fourth toe ten; third lamellae under fourth toe not distinctly enlarged.” (Avila-Pires & Hoogmoed 2000)

CommentPrevious records of P. lunulatus may be in fact Pseudogonatodes manessi.

Distribution: see map in Avila-Pires & Hoogmoed 2000: 218 (Fig. 5). 
EtymologyNamed after Scott J. Maness, who accompanied M. Hoogmoed while collecting in Rancho Grande. Scott Maness died fighting a forest fire in Florida.
