Proctoporus orcesi is unique among Proctoporus in that the hemipenis is relatively small and the distal one-third of the sulcus spermaticus is divided. It can be further distinguished from its congeners by the following characters (condition for P. orcesi in parentheses): P. anatoloros (usually), P. balneator, P. colomaromani, P. columbianus, P. hypostictus, P. labionis, P. luctuosus group, P. meleagris, P. oculatus, P. simoterus, P. unicolor, and P. ventrimaculatus: femoral pores in females present (absent). P. cashcaensis, P. petrorum, P. raneyi, P. stigmatoral, P. unicolor, and P. vespertinus: superciliary series incomplete (complete). P. vietus: dorsal scales rugose (striated/keeled). P. columbianus, P. meleagris, P. simoterus, and P. ventrimaculatus: dorsal scales smooth (striated/keeled).
