Distribution	Mexico (Cerro Pena Nevada area of Nuevo Leon; vicinity of Tapalpa, Tamaulipas) Type locality: 11.1 mi. (17.0 Km) SW Zaragoza, at Rancho La Encantada, Nuevo León, México. Elevation: 9300 ft (2835 m).

Types	Holotype: TCWC 69151.
Diagnosis
Comment	Sceloporus chaneyi is the only member of the Sceloporus scalaris group that lacks blue belly patches. Sympatry: Sceloporus grammicus microlepidotus, S. torquatus mikeprestoni, S. s. spinosus, S. jarrovi. Distribution: See Charran et al. 2025: 605 (Fig. 1) for a map.
