Type locality: Mexico. Restricted to Cuernavaca, Morelos, by SMITH & TAYLOR 1950.

TypesHolotype: ZMB 640 (missing fide Taylor, 1969), Ferdinand Deppe collector.
Syntypes: USNM 31386-31393, collected by John Xantus; 31391 exchanged to MCZ in 1944; 31392 exchanged to INHS (= UIMNH) in 1956, paratype: USNM 31391 [oligoporus] 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: Smith 1939: 98 
CommentSubspecies: Sceloporus horridus albiventris SMITH 1939: 108 is now considered as valid species.

Distribution: Not in Durango fide Lemos-Espinal (2018), nor in Sinaloa (Lemos-Espinal & Smith 2020). Not in Guanajuato fide Leyte-Manrique et al. 2022. For a map of localities see Vargas-Jaimes et al. 2025: Fig. 1.

Diet: a large percentage of the diet of this species (10-30%) consists of ants (Lucas et al. 2023).
