Type locality: From mouths of Quebradas Honda and Perines, between Lobitos and Talara, northern Peru.

TypesHolotype: BMNH 1946.1.18.71, male (formerly BMNH 1926.3.24.40). Paratypes: BMNH 1931.10.7.7, female, BMNH 1932.9.5.13, male.

Incertae sedis fide FENWICK et al. 2009 but closely related to B. pictus. 
EtymologyNamed after Dr. Burgess Barnett (1888-1944), Curator of Reptiles, London Zoo (1932-1937). He also worked at the Rangoon Zoological Gardens, Burma (Myanmar) (1938) until his death in Bengal. He also collected the types of this species in Peru.
