Type locality: “Hakari auf Sokotra” [now Aqari, a village in the southern plain of Socotra] (S. simonyi); Dahamis (Socotra) [P. socotranus].

CommentThe skink was described by F. Steindachner first, between May 5 and 15th of 1899, Boulenger's paper came out in May 18, 1899 (fide LOVERIDGE 1935).

Type species: Sepsina Simonyi STEINDACHNER 1899: 161 is the type species of the genus Hakaria STEINDACHNER 1899. 
EtymologyNamed after Dr. Oskar Simony (1852-1915), a mathematician, physicist, and naturalist. He was Professor of Mathematics, Physics, and Mechanics at an academy in Vienna.
