CommentApparently not listed in the Zoological Record of 1919-1920.

Picture in Winden et al. (1997).

Distribution: not in Armenia fide Jeff Ettling (pers. comm., 2 April 2015), not in Iraq fide Habeeb & Rastegar-Pouyani 2016. Not in Iran, Russia , Azerbaijan, Georgia fide Sindaco et al. 2013. For a map see Sindaco et al. 2013 and Bar et al. 2021. See map of subspecies in ŠMÍD et al. 2021 (Fig. 1).

Synonymy partly after Aziz Avci (pers. comm., and SCHÄTTI et al. 2001), and WALLACH et al. 2014. P. rubriceps is a valid species according to Nagy et al. (2004) but very closely related to P. collaris fide Zaher et al. 2019.

Subspecies: Venzmer 1919 described rubriceps based on 2 specimens. ŠMÍD et al. 2021 showed that collaris and rubriceps form two genetically distinct and gallopatric populations that may be considered as subspecies. However, they did not analyze morphological differentiation among these populations.
EtymologyProbably named after the Latin word collaris meaning collar (Lemos-Espinal & Dixon 2013) for the yellow or orange collar or nape.
