Type locality: Cerro Pelón, N slope Sierra Juárez, Oaxaca, Mexico, in cloud forest at an elevation of about 2750 m.  
Reproductionovoviviparous 
TypesHolotype: UTA R-10000, an adult female; collected 5 September 1974 by L. A. Mitchell. 
Diagnosis 
CommentA. mitchelli most closely resembles A. bogerti, A. chiszari and A. reidi, species inhabiting highland regions adjacent to the Sierra Madre del Sur and associated ranges in Oaxaca.

Abundance: only known from the type locality (Meiri et al. 2017). 
EtymologyNamed after Lyndon A. Mitchell was Animal Care Manager at the Reptile Departtnent, Dallas Zoo and a co-author of Jonathan Campbell.
