CommentThe status of subspecies of this species is unclear (but a valid species according to V. Wallach [pers. comm.]). Typhlops schmidti tanganicanus LAURENT 1964 is listed as T. lineolatus tanganicus by BROADLEY & HOWELL 1991. [both schmidti and tanganicanus are valid species fide BROADLEY and WALLACH]

Distribution: not in Tanzania fide SPAWLS et al. 2018. The type locality given by LAURENT 1956 (“Nyunzu, 700 ifi, Albertville Territory, Tanzania”) appears to be in error, see different type locality given by LAURENT 1968.
EtymologyNamed after Karl Patterson Schmidt (1890-1957), American herpetologist (see Davis 1957 and RESETAR & VORIS 1997 for biographical notes).
