DistributionIran, Pakistan, Afghanistan

Type locality: Persia
TypesSyntypes: MNHN-RA 6761, MNHN-RA 6761A and MNHN-RA 6761B (3 specimens)
Holotype: ZMB [cruralis]
DiagnosisDiagnosis: (cruralis) Dorsal tubercles sharply keeled; large tubercles presented top of the thigh; long forelimb; number of ventral scales lower than 32 a cross midbody; head large; number of scales between tubercles 4; color dark brown (from HOSSEINIAN-YOUSEFKHANI et al. 2017)

Diagnosis (persica): Dorsal tubercles smooth; small tubercles presented top of the thigh; short forelimb; number of ventral scales higher than 32; head small; number of scales between tubercles 3; color light brown (from HOSSEINIAN-YOUSEFKHANI et al. 2017)
CommentType species: Agamura cruralis BLANFORD 1874 is the type species of the genus Agamura BLANFORD 1874.

Synonymy: Smith (1935) synonymized A. persica and A. cruralis. HOSSEINIAN-YOUSEFKHANI et al. 2017 resurrected A. cruralis based on morphology. However, these authors looked only at Iranian specimens and there seems to be some overlap in diagnostic characters, e.g. the number of scales across the widest part of abdomen is 21-40 in cruralis and 31-47 in persica but these variable counts are still used as diagnostic (see diagnosis below, from their key), so it may be more appropriate to consider these two forms as subspecies. A molecular phylogeny may clarify these issues.

Distribution: See map in SMID et al. 2014 for distribution in Iran. HOSSEINIAN-YOUSEFKHANI et al. 2018 have a map with both persica and cruralis with the latter being restricted to eastern Iran and W Pakistan.
