CommentType species: Alexandresaurus camacan RODRIGUES et al. 2007 is the type species of the genus Alexandresaurus RODRIGUES et al. 2007. 
EtymologyNamed after the extinct Camacan Indians, a Botocudo group who lived in the exuberant forests of Bahia from north of Rio Pardo to Ilhéus.

The genus was named after Brazilian naturalist Alexandre Rodrigues Ferreira, born in Salvador, state of Bahia, as a recognition for his effort to document the natural history of Brazil at the end of the 18th century.
