Type locality: "d'une grotte totalement obscure de la Mananjeba (district d'Ambilobe), Nord de Madagascar."

TypesHolotype: MNHN-RA 1939.0053, a 500 mm male (R. Decary, 23 July 1938). However, Angel 1939 mentioned only 1 female specimen.

CommentFrom its discovery in 1939 to its rediscovery in 1990 only 2 specimens were found.

Habitat: partly arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018). 
EtymologyNamed after Francois Mocquard (1834-1917), French herpetologist.
