DiagnosisDiagnosis (genus): see Cunha 1970: 73. This genus and species resembles Leposoma, but can be dinguished by the presence of 4 (instead of 5) fingers.

CommentType species: Amapasaurus tetradactylus CUNHA 1970 is the type species of the genus Amapasaurus CUNHA 1970.

Distribution: see map in Jairam & Jairam-Doerga 2015. Probably in Guyana but not reported from there yet (Cole et al. 2013). 
EtymologyNamed after Greek tetras (τετράς), the number four + G. dactylos (δάκτυλος), finger, toe. (CUNHA 1970, Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., April 2024)

The genus was named after Amapá, a Northern Brazilian state + Greek sauros (σαῦρος), lizard.
