| Diagnosis | Diagnosis: A slender, medium sized species of Ameivula, distinguished from all other species of the genus by the following combina- tion of characters: (1) 6-7 supralabials; (2) 5- 6 infralabials; (3) 4-5 supraoculars; (4) five supracilaries; (5) 4-6 parietals; (6) 8 longitudinal rows of ventral scales; (7) 27-29 transversal ventral rows; (8) 14-17 femoral pores; (9) 184- 216 dorsal scales; (10) 24-29 scales around tail; (11) 94-102 scales around midbody; (12) 13- 15 fourth finger lamellae; (13) 23-28 fourth toe lamellae; (14) 41-47 gular scales; (15) absence of paravertebral stripes; (16) lateral ocelli extending from hindlimbs to forelimbs. The new species is assigned to the Ameivula ocellifera group (Arias et al., 2011a) by a low number of femoral pores (less than 20), en- larged scales in the temporal region (posteriorly to the third subocular), five supraciliary scales, 8 rows of ventral scales, and a brownish tail. |

| Etymology | The specific name “xacriaba” honors the Xakriabás indians. A remaining community that occupies an Indian Territory in the vicinities of Peruaçu region and along the left bank of the river São Francisco, in the municipalities of São João das Missões, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. |
